Mary Kay Smith

Mary Kay has been assisting breastfeeding women since 1982, after being accredited as a La Leche League Leader in Illinois.  After opening a breast pump rental depot in 1985, working with moms and babies in unique medical situations led to deeper interest in the science of lactation. This led to pursuing the IBCLC credential in 1988. She has been active in La Leche League at the state, division, and international levels and has worked with Peer Counselors since 1993. She is also a Registered Nurse and Certified Childbirth Educator.

She is a member of the Michigan Breastfeeding Network (A Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies sub-group) and BirthNetwork, a organization supportive of natural childbirth and attachment parenting, and AHWONN.

As a lecturer and writer, Mary Kay has presented at local, regional and national conferences on breastfeeding and has published numerous articles for parents and health care professionals.
